The borough of Queens, home to speakers of nearly 150 different languages, is the most diverse county in the United States. This heterogeneity makes Queens a great place to eat, especially if you find a spot where locals dish up food for other locals, like the bazaar in the parking lot behind the Masjid Al-Hikmah mosque in Astoria. Once a month, members dust off their favorite recipes and turn the small lot into a mini-Jakarta, serving satays, noodles, and numerous variants of the culinary sub-genre of tasty pockets with surprises inside.

looks amazing. is there enough veg-friendly stuff to make it worth my trip?
Thanks! You'd probably be best off combining a trip here with a trip to another eatery nearby, unless you don't mind filling up on coconut desserts. While the noodles were vegetarian, a fair amount of the dumplings and other fried snacks were not.

How many people did that amount of food feed and how much did it cost?
Um, two. We're good eaters. In total, we spent less than $20.
