Salvatore of Soho

Pepperoni, onion, and garlic pizza, Salvatore of Soho

To get to Staten Island's Salvatore of Soho from our apartment, we have to take the subway, a ferry, and another train, then walk a good ways along a multi-lane commercial thoroughfare dotted with depressing strip malls and parking lots. Why would anyone do such a thing? To eat the best pizza in New York, at least according to the 5-Boro Pizza Tour, which named Salvatore of Soho the top pie in the city last year. We're sufficiently inclusive in our pizza connoisseurship to make singling one pie out as the best impossible, but Salvatore of Soho certainly makes a case to be mentioned in any such conversation. The salty, charred crust, the dripping, freshly made cheese, the piles of toppings --- well, just look at that thing.
