Alice Austen House

Alice Austen was a prolific, groundbreaking photographer. Lugging around equipment that weighed up to 50 pounds, she documented life in New York City from the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century, including vaudeville stars, Central Park, ships, parades, rag collectors, bicyclists, immigrants, her house, her friends, and her self, among many other subjects. Today her Staten Island house exists as a museum, surrounded by a nice park and offering views of New York Harbor.
