Houdon's Winter (La Frileuse) at the Met

Although it hasn't been particularly cold in New York yet, winter is, as they say, coming, and the turn of the season always puts us in mind of Jean Antoine Houdon's haunting sculpture of a shivering girl, both beautiful and pitiful, a stark reminder of our frailty in the face of the elements.
