Great Trees

When you think of New York, you probably don't immediately think "trees." And yet the city boasts millions of trees, including some so amazing they've earned the official designation of "Great Tree." Since 1985, the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation has solicited recommendations for the city's best trees, from a black oak at Woodlawn Cemetery to the so-called Survivor Tree at the 9/11 Memorial Plaza to a cedar of Lebanon at Olmsted-Beil House Park. The Parks Department maintains a searchable list, worth checking out if you need a little more botany or greatness in your life.
