Economy Candy

Walking into Economy Candy is like walking into the past. Sure, the cavernous sweets emporium has been open since 1937, but the Big League Chew, Cabbage Patch cards, giant Homer Simpson pez dispensers, gummy lips, candy cigarettes, and multicolored unicorn pops are straight out of the 80s.

You can't beat the selection, which ranges from Jewish specialties like halvah to imported pastilles and the aforementioned goodies we gobbled on as children. The child-with-gigantic-hands logo is a wee bit creepy, though.

But what we really enjoy is the mix of people shopping the tottering shelves: bakers, tourists, retailers, and average folk like us who simply consider candy to be the fifth food group.

Homer Simpson dispensers straight out of the 80s? Didn't The Simpsons start in the 90s?
