Zaytoons

After a recent visit to some friends in Brooklyn, we wandered into Zaytoons ("Olives") in Fort Greene. Unaware that they have a nice garden accessible from a side entrance, we sat in the stifling dining room, fanning ourselves with our menus and wondering how it could be 90 degrees in April. We decided to both beat the heat and join it, so we ordered a platter of grape leaves, babaghanouj, foul (fava beans with tomatoes and peppers), olives, and pickles, and a merguez sausage with spicy rice. We weren't huge fans of the foul, but the grape leaves and babaghanouj were great, the merguez was nice and crumbly, and the rice was as good as any we've had in a long time.
