Blessing of the Animals at the General Theological Seminary

To commemorate the feast day of St. Francis, patron saint of animals, Catholic and Episcopalian churches around the world welcome cats, birds, dogs, fish, rodents, and other pets for a short service on or around October 4. The one we attended this year featured barking, panting, and licking. Amen to that!

Just a note that the General Theological Seminary is Episcopalian, but follows the same custom on St. Francis day.
Ah, good to know --- thanks!

Hi, So glad Jess and Garrett had a good time at the Seminary. Great photos. My colleague Chris Ballard organizes this event and one of our professors the Rev. Mitties DeChamplain is shown here doing the blessings. Chris said we had 45 visitors! -Bruce Parker (communications office)
Thanks for being in touch, Bruce. We're glad you liked the photos. Next year we promise to bring our cat!
