Socarrat Paella Bar

Before last week our only association with paella was the two-part Seinfeld episode in which the Constanzas discover that the Seinfelds don't like them all that much. "What am I supposed to do with all this paella?" wails Estelle, upon learning that Jerry's parents aren't coming for dinner. Later, Kramer comes over ("Ooo paealla"), and Frank discovers that George has been selling his dad's so-called cabana wear to a used clothing store. Hilarity ensues.

Our visit to Socarrat Paella Bar involved far less screaming and far fewer moths. Instead, we started with a nice, poppy glass of cava, skipping the tapas on offer in favor of a vast vat of the house paella, a luscious stew of chicken, cuttlefish, shrimp, chicken, beef, edamame, and rice, lots and lots of rice, some over-salted, some moist and risotto-like, some crispy and crunchy, yummy enough to make us want to try other versions, not that there's anything wrong with that.
