Sweet Revenge

We loved this place.
Dulce de leche cupcake, Sweet Revenge

We loved the small interior, with its white tiles, polished bar of dark wood, and overall speakeasy-by-way-of-Paris feel. We loved the huge windows, which had been opened to reveal a beautiful day in the West Village. We loved watching the single baker frosting a batch in the kitchen, beneath rows of ingredients stocked high on shelves.

We loved the cupcakes, including the caramel cake with caramel frosting, straightforwardly called the Dulce de Leche but more subtly flavored than the name would suggest, as well as the dense peanut butter cake stuffed with a dab of chocolate ganache and topped with rich, yet light peanut butter frosting, known as the Sweet Revenge. We loved that we'll have to go back to try the rotating daily specials, including an all-coconut one. We loved the idea of beer and wine pairings with the sweet treats, although we felt the sell was a bit hard on that front.

We loved, truly loved, the fact that Sweet Revenge is decidedly adult. No sprinkles. No hot pink. Here, the cupcakes even come with forks!

I don't know...I find this place to be a little self-serious. They are just cupcakes after all. The coffee is excellent in any event
I have yet to try but on my to do list. They look so yummy!!
The space is cute and the cupcakes are good, but the service leaves something to be desired. Both times we've been, the lone staffer (the owner) ignored the majority of her customers to chat with one table in particular. I don't think it's malicious or passive-aggressive on her part, but the last time we waited so long for her to come over and take our order that we left.
@Bill: You can never be too serious about sweets :)
@NYC, Style and a little Cannoli: Look forward to seeing their appearance on your site.
@Kate: Wow, that is bad service. The service was a little weird when we were there -- pushing the drinks, like we said, and sort of a long delay for the check -- but they had a couple of people working, so that helped.
Thanks for reading, everyone!
