Circo's Pastry Shop
Before it became home to people from all over Latin America, and long before it became the city's hippest neighborhood, Bushwick had a vibrant Sicilian community. Today, only a few pieces of that world remain. Circo's Pastry Shop may be more popular among abuelas than nonnas now, but treats this tasty speak every language. A miniature cheesecake, hardly visible beneath the giant strawberry top, had a mellow creaminess. And the cannoli ranks among the best in New York: cherries at either end, a scattering of chocolate chips throughout, a blizzard of powdered sugar, and a thick shell that crunches its way to a sweet, tangy filling. Timeless.
