Pepsi-Cola Sign

Thirsty? Four stories tall, with a 50-foot-high bottle, the Pepsi sign is among the most visible features of the East River waterfront. Some 80 years ago, a huge sign marked the soda factory, one of many such industries dominating Long Island City, Queens. Back then, Pepsi's slogan was "Twice as Much for a Nickel." Perhaps not the catchiest, although arguably better than "Pepsi's got your taste for life" from the early 1980s or "Double Dutch Bus" from the mid-1990s.

As for the giant neon sign, the original was replaced in 1994, and the factory was demolished in 2003. The current sign, located in what's now Gantry Plaza State Park, achieved landmark status in 2016. It's great from the front or from the back --- Pepsi, if you're reading, feel free to consider that for future slogans.
