On Sunday, we watched the Brooklyn Cyclones defeat the Tri-City Valley Cats in the final game of the regular season. (The
Cyclones start the playoffs this week.) Despite being longtime Yankees
fans, we have a soft spot for these minor leaguers affiliated with the Mets, perhaps because they play in the shadow of ever
gaudy yet
delightfully irrepressible Coney Island. Or perhaps it's because of the all of the crowd-pleasing antics that occur (the Beach Bums cheerleaders, bubble racing, sing-a-longs, the apparently league-required four errors per game, etc.). At the end, kids were allowed to run the bases, an exuberant way to say so long to summer.
