Tortilleria & Taqueria Tres Hermanos
We went a little overboard on a recent trip to Bushwick's most famous taqueria, located inside a tortilleria. Carried away by the low prices and an opportunity to trot out our high-school Spanish, we kept asking for más, por favor: more tacos, more quesadillas, more freshly made tortillas.
While the pollo was a little dry, and the tostada too crunchy to eat without sending lettuce flying onto nearby tables, the carne asada taco and vegetarian picada were particularly bien, unpretentious and totally sloppy. This is rib-sticking food.
We weren't there during the tortilleria's factory hours, but we could see the equipment waiting patiently and coldly for Monday. In nicer weather, the Tres Hermanos loading dock doubles as an outdoor space, and as a performance space late at night. Once upon a time, you could actually eat inside the factory, but the DOH took care of that. ¡Diablos! ¡Que tontería!
