SITE Fest in Bushwick

Shahar Marcus, SITE Fest 2011
SITE Fest celebrates art in Bushwick through two days of video installations, performances, exhibitions, and concerts around the neighborhood. Yesterday at 3rd Ward, we watched men play chess with frozen pieces, a man attempt to eat the Irish tricolor, and two artists in search of material to silkscreen. Today you can hear an artist talk about her experiences in Athens or see another make out with plants. Like the recent FRIGID fringe festival, this arts extravaganza may cause cringing or, in some cases, involuntary gagging, but ultimately its performances make the city a richer, more interesting place.

If you go, remember that you'll be on BAT, or Bushwick Artists' Time, as soon as you get off the L train. In our experience, BAT is anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour behind Eastern Standard Time.
