2024 Whitney Biennial

 

The Whitney Biennial is reliably good for one thing: it's easy to criticize. This year's was no exception, purporting to be about AI and the increasingly slippery line between what's real and what's not, but largely about identity politics. Much of the art required placards to be intelligible, and even those descriptions were often a stretch. So why go? Well, it's still one of the most important surveys of contemporary art around, a snapshot of cultural values at this very moment as well as a truly applaudable display of creative effort.
