The George Washington Bridge and the Little Red Lighthouse

The architect Le Corbusier described the George Washington Bridge as "the most beautiful bridge in the world . . . the only seat of grace in the disordered city." We think this is a bit of an overstatement --- the Brooklyn Bridge is only a few miles away, after all --- but it does capture the spirit of grandeur and power that the GW imparts. But the austerity of the bridge, which is its most impressive feature, is only thrown into proper relief when you see the famous and whimsical Little Red Lighthouse sitting pluckily in its shadow.
