Federal Reserve Bank
Ever wonder what $270 billion looks like? Well, you can see for yourself as part of the free tour of the country's largest Federal Reserve Bank. After strolling through exhibits on counterfieting and numistics, you'll be escorted to the sub-sub-sub-basement. Eighty feet below Liberty Street lies, roughly, 7,000 metric tons of gold, more than 20% of the world's monetary reserves. Just in case you start to get any ideas, the tour guide will point out the various steel-and-concrete fortifications, including the 90-ton steel cylinder that keeps the vault water-, air-, and robber-tight. And don't forget your parting gift, a bag of shredded currency. Draw any metaphoric parallels to recent economic woes you'd like.
i love!
