OHNY: Newtown Creek Digester Eggs

For one weekend every October, many of New York's architectural marvels throw open their doors and invite in the public for free talks and tours. openhousenewyork, now in its eighth year, is the largest architect and design event in the United States. This morning we toured the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant's Digester Eggs, responsible for processing 1.5 million gallons of sludge every day, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Yes, friends, we're talking about poo. The slight aroma and near-constant mechanical humming were worth it for the stunning views of city, sky, and industry.
