The Feeding Tree
Jamaican often means jerk, so for our first foray at The Feeding Tree, we went with jerk chicken (top) and jerk shrimp (bottom). This Bronx restaurant almost next door to Yankee Stadium is something of an institution. Eric Asimov reviewed it for the Times way back in 2000. Anthony Bourdain visited it in 2009. And, yet, during our Saturday lunch there were a handful of to-go orders but no other diners. Now that the Yankees are winning again, perhaps business will pick up. Or perhaps not. Being an acknowledged powerhouse means weathering slow springs and busy summers, visits from the famous and visits from the non, pitchers who fall off trampolines and pitchers who give up too many hits, really moist chicken and slightly too done shrimp. These institutions know that true fans will love them all the same.
