Fargo at Nitehawk
Is there a better snowy weather movie than Fargo? The Shining is close, admittedly, and everyone loves tauntauns, but for our money the Coen brothers' Minnesotan masterpiece wins frame by frosty frame. We caught it again last weekend as part of Nitehawk's Coen Brothers series and were reminded of just how much humanism underlies the film's humor and horror, from the matter-of-fact treatment of Marge's pregnancy to Norm's gentle humility. Above all, though, is Marge's constant goodness, her unflagging effort to think of the best of the people around her, to protect their feelings and keep them warm against the surrounding cold.
