Richard Serra's Equal at MoMA
Much is made these days about perception and reality. You can't get much realer than Richard Serra's "Equal," a massive sculpture series on view at MoMA. The 2015 piece is comprised of four stacks, two boxes per stack, each box weighing 40 tons and measuring five-and-a-half-by-six feet. No glue, no nails, no adhesive or welding or bonding agent of any kind, just gravity standing between you and you-as-a-pancake.
